we’re counting down to the biggest event on the NZ SUP calendar – Nationals.  It’s great to see the registrations coming in, and paddlers everywhere of all different levels out training.

I encourage you to take advantage of group training sessions with your local club or Facebook paddling group.  Also if you loved (or missed) the Pauanui City Surf Series race then head down to Papamoa 18-19 February for the Barrett Homes NZ Longboard & SUP Open, where the Starboard King of the Waves Race will serve as a great warm-up for Nationals.

Again, a big thank you to all the tremendous sponsors who have come on board so far for 2017: Orange Scaffold, Magrette, Rosie and Harcourts Cooper & Co, Saxe-Coburg, Atomic Coffee, Starboard, NSP, SIC, Moana SUP, SUPSHED, Ocean Culture and BIC.  We’re still working on filling in the blanks, so if you know of anyone who might like to sponsor a race or help out please drop me a line.

Happy paddling!

Stand Up Paddler Mark Houghton is a familiar face around Takapuna and at his favourite surf breaks – Whangamata and Sandy Bay.  He’s also been a solid performer on the NZ race circuit since 2009 (although he hasn’t beaten little brother Gavin for a while now).

Mark’s business Saxe-Coburg is sponsoring the Saxe-Coburg Mens Surf Race.”At Saxe-Coburg we look after investments for private clients, estates and trusts.

“We have a distinctive investment approach, focused on producing consistent returns whilst protecting your capital.  For each of our clients, our aim is to strike the right balance between certainty and rate of return through focusing on the risk side of the equation rather than the return side.  We believe you make money by not losing money!”

Without the support of the NZ SUP Industry, we wouldn’t have a National event to be proud of.  Each of our SUP Brand sponsors are providing an auction package valued at $2500 or more this year, which enables NZSUP to deliver the event and put some money in the bank to support the future growth of the sport.

Huge thanks to Aroona Group, NSP & Surftech, for donating the NSP SC Surf Wide Cocomat 8’3″ with Carbon Adjustable Paddle RRP $2565. This package will feature in the live auction line-up at the event prizegiving.

Looking sharp in the new deep red colour for 2017, this is a desirable intermediate level surf SUP, built tough with NSP’s exclusive premium construction. Designer Dale Chapman has increased the dimensions of the Surf Pro model to create this 32″ wide, 138 litre game-changer, for ease of use and more fun in smaller waves. Ultra-lightweight and packaged with NSP’s new ATR-50 adjustable carbon paddle this combo is ideal for accomplished paddlers looking to explore the delights of SUP surfing. Note: depending on availability at the time, auction winner can select their preference of 8’3″, 8’7″ or 8’10” board length in either red or blue colour.
