Sundays rule at Orewa Beach with the SUPSHED SPRING SERIES proudly presented by Starboard, a six-event SUP and Prone Paddleboard series to crank up your paddle fitness for summer.  Don’t have a race board?  No worries!  It doesn’t matter what kind of board you ride, longboard, surf SUP, clubbie board… bring it along just for fun and get your glide on.  The courses will be varied and adapt to take advantage of the best conditions on the day.  All ages and ability levels are welcome, and boards can be supplied for novice SUP race entrants.  Register online at www.supshed.com


Choose your distance:

  • The Social Splash (1km)
  • The Spring Thing (3km)
  • The Big ‘O’ (6km) or
  • First Stroke (non-competitive).

Choose your weapon:  (Prone/SUP/Longboard)

And your division:

  • 1km – Junior U17 and ANY novice
  • 3km/6km – Junior U17 (12’6 and under), Open (14′ and under), Masters O50 (14′ and under)

Register for the series online at SUPSHED.COM ($100 adults/$80 U17), or a one-off event ($20).


9.30-11.30am – Compulsory check in at SUPSHED every event day (pick up your race number)

10.30-11.10am – First Stroke*

11.45am – Compulsory race briefing at Orewa Beach


12pm – Races start

Food and Drinks afterwards at Orewa Surf Club, with spot prizegiving at 2.15pm.

Season Prizegiving after Race 6 to award 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each division (based on top 4 races).

Event Dates: Race 1: Sun 20 Aug, Race 2: Sun 3 Sept, Race 3: Sun 24 Sept, Race 4: Sun 1 Oct, Race 5: Sun 15 Oct, Race 6: Sun 29 Oct.  No race Sun 17th Sept (Cam to Ham).

All participants must wear a race number bib, leash and PFD.  Paddlers can opt to change between distances each week, but your series results will be based on your top 4 results in any one distance.  After each race all Webscorer results will be published online at SUPSHED.COM along with a running leaderboard.

*First Stroke: introducing a non-competitive fun paddle and introduction to SUPracing, no experience needed.  Beginners and non-competitive paddlers welcome.  Boards and paddles will be supplied for those needing them.  Those signing up will also get a free entry into The Social Splash 1km race to use at any event.  Wetsuits or warm thermal layers recommended. Conditions permitting – First Stroke will be postponed if wind is over 15knots or waves over 0.5m.
